The Thatch, Elsdon is one of three cottages located in the beautiful countryside around the small village of Monkton Wyld set in the grounds of a former 17th century manor house. Perfectly located, Lyme Regis and its sandy beach is just 5 minutes drive away with the border to Devon equally close so that you can easily explore both counties. 10 minutes drive gets you to Axminster, home to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's popular River Cottage shop and restaurant. The countryside around this part of West Dorset is stunning and luckily their is a wealth of walking routes directly from your doorstep. The whole of the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline is easily accessible from here with guided fossil walks available from Lyme Regis. There is a pub and a restaurant close by with a huge choice available in nearby Lyme Regis and Charmouth. This is a great place if you holiday with your pet with 6 acres of grounds and wonderful walks and The Thatch accepts up to two well behaved dogs.

The accommodation at The Thatch is all on ground level and comprises of an open plan sitting area with TV, DVD player, CD player, log burner and Wi-Fi. The dining area has table with chairs for four and the kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher with a washing machine and tumble dryer available in a shared utility area. A small sunroom extends the living area. There are two bedrooms arranged as a king sized double and a twin. The bathroom has bath with shower over, basin and toilet.

Outside there are 6 acres of grounds that including a lake, woods and meadows. There is off road parking for two cars. Your fuel, power and bed linen are all included in the price.

Lyme Regis

Lyme Regis, nicknamed 'The Pearl of Dorset' is the most westerly town in Dorset and lies on the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The town is famed for its fossils which can be found on its beaches and cliffs. The famous harbour wall known as 'The Cobb' featued in the film and novel of The French Lieutenant's Woman by John Fowles as well as Jane Austen's Persuasion.

Lyme Regis has quite a history and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. These days, areas of interest include the Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium which displays local fish and marine life from the Jurassic Coast. The Town Mill dates back to 1340 and is fully restored to working order and still produces flour which can be purchased from its shop. Lyme Regis Museum houses a large collection of local memorabilia, historical items and exhibits explaining the local geological and palaeontological treasures. Set into the pavement, outside the museum, is an ornate example of Coade stone work, in the form of ammonites. The Dinosaurland Fossil Museum is also located in Lyme Regis in the former church where Mary Anning, famous fossil collector, dealer, and paleontologist was christened.
